Is the iMacbutton needed on the newer iMacs or just the 1st version (Rev. A)?The iMacButton fits on all versions of the iMac ,it is most important on the Rev. A units. During a hard freeze on the newer units (Rev. B , C & D), one can sometimes turn the unit off and then on again from the front button on the iMac itself. That is not the same as a restart, also there are times that does not work. All iMac computer with a megaherz rating of 333 and lower need the iMacButton. The latest "clear" iMac's do not need it.

What is the lower hole for & does the iMacButton cover it?That is the programmers interrupt switch. You will rarely need to touch that. Generally speaking only When instructed by an expert or during a firmware update. You will be given specific instruction on what to do in the case of the latter. This lower hole remains accessible for use.

Why don't you make a double button for both reset and programmers switch? We did consider doing that but two things came up. First, if the reset button was much flatter it would be hard to hit with all the cables in there. Second, The buttons would be close together. It would be very easy to accidentally hit the programmers switch when trying to reset. We felt that making it harder to hit the reset button that one uses quite a bit did not justify adding the programmers switch that you might use occasionally. One last thing, we sell our button to many schools. Teachers don't want it that easy to get into the programmers interface for obvious reasons.

Does the iMacButton stay in place all the time?Yes. The iMacButton sticks securely to the side of the iMac over the reset hole and stays put.

Do you offer educational discounts & take PO's?Yes to both. Please send us a note with your institution's requirements and we will be happy to give you a quote.

Will the door close with the iMacButton in place and can I reach the iMacButton through the finger hole.Yes on the first part. I have only seen one person actually snake their finger through to the button, but I don't think it's practical.

Have you ever tried to open the DOOR on the side of your iMac.It can be difficult to open the door unless you know the secret(s).

  1. First, the cables do not go out the finger hole. There are opening at both corner of the door for that.
  2.
  3. Second, and most important, to open the door with great ease simply press down on the the lower edge of the finger hole and the door will flip down without the slightest resistance.
